Google Display Ads Are Moving to Demand Gen: What Advertisers Need to Know
Google has announced a major evolution of its advertising platform by integrating Google Display inventory into Demand Gen campaigns. The update is designed to simplify campaign management while expanding advertiser reach across Google's most popular visual surfaces, including YouTube, Discover, Gmail, Google Maps, and the Google Display Network.
The rollout begins in June 2026, with Google introducing a migration tool that allows eligible Display campaigns to be upgraded to Demand Gen. Over time, new Display campaigns will be created through Demand Gen, with automatic migration planned for remaining eligible campaigns through 2027.
Key Highlights
- Display inventory is now available in Demand Gen campaigns.
- One campaign can reach users across YouTube, Discover, Gmail, Google Maps, and the Google Display Network.
- AI-powered optimization improves audience targeting, bidding, and creative performance.
- Simplified campaign management with fewer campaign types to manage.
- Advertisers can still choose Display-only placements using Demand Gen channel controls.
- Google will gradually migrate eligible Display campaigns to Demand Gen through 2027.
Why It Matters
This update marks another step in Google's AI-first advertising strategy. By consolidating campaign types, advertisers can manage campaigns more efficiently while benefiting from broader reach and smarter automation.
